The Faculty of Language, Arts and Media (SLAM) was established in 2006 as a part of a basic tutorial restructuring undertaken by the College. Organized for administrative and academic purposes into four divisions—Literature, Language Studies, Journalism/Media Studies and English for Academic Functions—the School provides a wide range of courses in its numerous disciplines. It is a prerequisite course for the MBA Program in Arts and Media Administration. JAMgrants are part of the Metcalf Program and can present UChicago undergraduates with fingers-on alternatives by supporting their work with professionals and small organizations that administer on-the-job mentoring and training in journalism, arts, and media.
